By accessing our clubs, utilizing our mobile application, or engaging with our website, you explicitly agree to be bound by these terms. We encourage you to read this document thoroughly, as it contains important information regarding billing practices, liability waivers, and dispute resolution procedures that affect your legal rights.

Membership Eligibility and Enrollment

To establish a Planet Fitness membership, individuals must meet specific age and identification requirements. Primary members must be at least 18 years of age. Minors between the ages of 13 and 17 may join, but only with explicit, documented consent from a parent or legal guardian who assumes full financial responsibility for the account. These terms and conditions dictate that all members must provide valid, government-issued identification during the enrollment process to verify eligibility and ensure the safety of our club environment.

By completing the enrollment process, whether online or in-club, you enter into a legally binding agreement to abide by all club rules, policies, and financial obligations. Your membership is strictly individual and non-transferable. You are expressly prohibited from sharing your digital keytag, physical barcode, or account credentials with any other person. Any violation of these enrollment terms, including unauthorized access attempts, may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your membership without refund.

Billing, Dues, and Annual Fees

As a member, you agree to pay all monthly dues, annual fees, and applicable taxes as outlined in your specific membership agreement. Monthly dues are typically collected via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from your designated checking account or via automatic credit card billing on a recurring, monthly basis. It is your legal responsibility to ensure that your payment information remains current and that sufficient funds are available to cover these recurring charges. Failure to maintain valid payment methods may result in late fees or account suspension.

In addition to monthly dues, most memberships require the payment of an Annual Fee. This fee is clearly disclosed during the sign-up process and is automatically billed once per year. The Annual Fee is essential for maintaining our high-quality equipment, facility cleanliness, and ongoing club improvements. Please note that all fees are non-refundable unless explicitly mandated by local or state consumer protection laws. If you wish to dispute a charge, you must contact your home club's management within 60 days of the billing cycle in question.

Cancellation and Account Freezing Policies

We believe in transparency regarding how you can manage or terminate your membership. To cancel your membership and stop future billing, you must follow the precise cancellation procedures outlined in your agreement. Generally, this requires submitting a written cancellation request in person at your designated home club or sending a certified letter to the club's physical address. To avoid being billed for the subsequent month, your cancellation request must be received and processed by the club's specified monthly deadline (typically the 10th of the month).

If you are unable to use the facility for medical reasons or extended travel, you may be eligible to "freeze" your account temporarily. Account freezes pause your access and monthly billing for a predetermined period, subject to a nominal monthly freeze fee. Medical freezes require valid documentation from a licensed healthcare provider. The specific terms and conditions governing freezes vary slightly by franchise location, so we strongly advise consulting directly with your home club's front desk staff for precise details.

Black Card Guest Privileges and Restrictions

The PF Black Card® membership includes the exclusive benefit of bringing one guest per visit to any Planet Fitness location. Under these terms and conditions, the guest must be accompanied by the active Black Card member at all times during the visit. Guests must present valid photo identification upon entry and are required to sign a digital liability waiver before utilizing any equipment. Guests must be at least 18 years old, or 13-17 years old with a parent or guardian present to sign the waiver.

It is important to note that guest privileges are limited to the use of standard fitness equipment on the gym floor. Guests are strictly prohibited from accessing premium Black Card Spa amenities, including massage chairs, tanning beds, HydroMassage lounges, and Total Body Enhancement booths. The primary member assumes full legal and financial responsibility for the behavior and actions of their guest while on the premises. Management reserves the right to refuse entry or revoke guest privileges if club rules are violated.

Use of Premium Amenities (Tanning & Spa)

Access to Black Card Spa amenities is a premium feature governed by strict safety and legal regulations. The use of tanning equipment is subject to specific age restrictions mandated by state and local laws; in many jurisdictions, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from using UV tanning devices. All members utilizing tanning services must complete a skin type questionnaire and adhere to maximum exposure times determined by the equipment manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.

Furthermore, the use of FDA-approved protective eyewear is strictly mandatory during any UV tanning session. We reserve the right to deny access to spa amenities if a member appears intoxicated, fails to follow safety protocols, or exhibits behavior that could result in injury or equipment damage. Members must sign up for spa services at the front desk and are limited to specific time allocations to ensure fair access for all Black Card holders.

Digital Platforms and App Usage

Your use of the Planet Fitness mobile application and website is governed by these legal terms. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use our digital platforms for personal, non-commercial purposes related to your fitness journey. You agree not to manipulate, reverse engineer, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to our underlying digital infrastructure, APIs, or member databases.

The content provided through our digital platforms, including workout videos, articles, and training plans, is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as professional medical advice. We make no guarantees regarding the continuous availability or error-free operation of the app. We reserve the right to update, modify, or discontinue digital features at our sole discretion, without prior notice, as part of our ongoing effort to improve the digital member experience.

Facility Maintenance and Closure

While we strive to provide consistent, uninterrupted access to our facilities, Planet Fitness reserves the right to temporarily close clubs, restrict access to specific areas, or take equipment out of service for routine maintenance, deep cleaning, upgrades, or emergency repairs. We will make reasonable efforts to notify members of planned closures via email, app notifications, or in-club signage.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as severe weather, natural disasters, power outages, or public health mandates, club operations may be suspended without prior notice. These terms and conditions stipulate that members are not entitled to refunds or prorated dues for temporary closures or equipment unavailability, provided the club resumes normal operations within a reasonable timeframe as defined by local consumer protection regulations.

Termination of Agreement by Planet Fitness

Planet Fitness retains the legal right to terminate your membership agreement immediately, without notice or refund, if you breach any of these terms and conditions. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to: failure to pay required dues, violation of the Judgement Free Zone policies, engaging in aggressive or threatening behavior toward staff or members, destruction of club property, or unauthorized personal training activities.

Upon termination, you will be permanently banned from accessing any Planet Fitness location nationwide. Any outstanding financial balances on your account will remain due and may be subject to collection efforts. We take the safety and comfort of our community seriously, and management exercises zero tolerance for actions that compromise the welcoming environment we strive to maintain.

Assumption of Risk and Liability Waiver

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: THIS SECTION CONTAINS A BINDING LIABILITY WAIVER THAT AFFECTS YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.

By executing your membership agreement and utilizing the facilities, equipment, or services provided by Planet Fitness, you acknowledge and agree that engaging in physical exercise, fitness training, and the use of gym equipment involves inherent risks. These risks include, but are not limited to, the potential for severe physical injury, cardiovascular complications, muscle strains, broken bones, and in extreme cases, permanent disability or death. You voluntarily assume all risks associated with your participation in any fitness activities on our premises.

You hereby release, discharge, and hold harmless Planet Fitness, its parent companies, franchisees, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, demands, damages, rights of action, or causes of action, present or future, arising out of or connected to your use of the facility. This comprehensive legal waiver applies to injuries or damages resulting from the negligence of Planet Fitness or its staff, to the fullest extent permitted by law. It is your sole responsibility to consult with a qualified medical professional prior to beginning any new exercise program to ensure you are physically capable of safely participating.

Furthermore, Planet Fitness is not liable for the loss, theft, or damage of any personal property brought onto the premises, including items stored in lockers or parked in our designated parking areas. Members are strongly advised to leave valuable items at home and to utilize high-quality locks for day-use lockers. The use of the facility is entirely at your own risk, both physically and regarding personal property.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms and conditions, along with any disputes arising from your membership or use of Planet Fitness facilities, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the state in which your home club is located, without regard to its conflict of law principles. This localized approach ensures that your legal rights are protected under the specific consumer protection statutes applicable to your jurisdiction.

By entering into this agreement, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located within the county of your home club for the resolution of any legal matters not subject to mandatory arbitration. You agree that any legal action or proceeding shall be brought solely in these designated courts, waiving any objections to venue or inconvenient forum.

Severability and Entire Agreement

If any provision or clause of these terms and conditions is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such finding shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions. The invalid clause will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving the original intent of the agreement.

This document, combined with your specific signed membership agreement and the in-club rules, constitutes the entire legal agreement between you and Planet Fitness regarding your membership. It supersedes all prior or contemporaneous communications, representations, or agreements, whether oral or written. No employee or representative of Planet Fitness has the authority to modify these terms verbally.

Mandatory Arbitration Agreement and Class Action Waiver

Important legal information regarding dispute resolution.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: To expedite resolution and control the cost of any disputes, you and Planet Fitness agree that any legal or equitable claim relating to your membership, these terms and conditions, or your use of the facilities will be resolved strictly through binding, individual arbitration, rather than in a court of law. This agreement to arbitrate is intended to be broadly interpreted and covers all claims arising out of or relating to any aspect of our relationship.

ARBITRATION PROCEDURES: The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. A single, neutral arbitrator will be appointed to hear the case. The arbitrator's decision will be final and binding, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. You acknowledge that by agreeing to this arbitration clause, you are waiving your constitutional right to a trial by jury or to have your case heard by a judge in a public court.

CLASS ACTION WAIVER: You and Planet Fitness further agree that any arbitration or legal proceeding shall be conducted solely on an individual basis and not as a class action, consolidated action, or representative action. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not otherwise preside over any form of a representative or class proceeding. If this specific class action waiver is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of this arbitration agreement shall be null and void.

OPT-OUT PROVISION: You have the right to opt-out of this mandatory arbitration agreement by sending written notice of your decision to opt-out to Planet Fitness Corporate Legal Department within 30 days of initially signing your membership agreement. Your notice must include your name, address, home club location, and a clear statement that you wish to opt-out of the arbitration agreement. Opting out will not affect your membership status or your ability to use our facilities.
